- What is the GiftLaw and GiftLegacy Teleconference webcast?
- Webcasts for GiftLaw will enable professionals to hear top speakers in the field of charitable gift planning and to be updated on the latest charitable planning strategies. The GiftLegacy webcast is designed to enable donors to have a better understanding of both financial and charitable plans that can benefit them and their favorite charities. The webcasts are available on any computer with a broadband system.

- What is video-quality broadband?
- The video signal is webcast by Crescendo, passed to the Internet system and then relayed by Internet computers to your local computer. About 90% of broadband systems are video-quality, and receive and show the video and audio properly. However, about 10% of broadband systems are NOT video-quality. They block the Internet video signal at the local level and the webcast will not be displayed. The blocking is either a local firewall that blocks the signal, or too many users for the available bandwidth. In a number of large universities, student Internet usage has far exceeded the bandwidth provided by the IT department, and the students block the webcast video signal.

- I don’t want to discover whether or not our broadband Internet system is video-quality when I am standing in front of a large group of donors or professionals on the day of the teleconference. How can I test the system in advance?
- It is much better to test in advance and avoid a potential public relations problem. There are several ways to test your system. The prior GiftLegacy programs are rebroadcast two or three times the two weeks prior to a webcast. Check the GiftLaw and GiftLegacy websites for information on the test webcasts. Contact your IT department four to eight weeks before the teleconference and request a test. During this GiftLegacy test webcast, you will be able to check out the High, Medium and Low speed options and also the Firewall option. Another test option is to use the GiftCollege programs. The technology for the GiftCollege webcasts is the same as the GiftLaw and GiftLegacy webcasts.

- How can I access the webcast on my computer?
- The webcast is available if you have the following Windows or Macintosh system. It does require a broadband connection. This is usually a DSL or cable connection, but may also be a T1 connection. The broadband connection must also be able to receive about 250Kbps or more during the program. This is usually no problem for any of the broadband technologies. The one consideration for some universities is that if the program line is shared with thousands of students, there may not be available bandwidth for the program.

- Can I receive the program on Windows or Macintosh?
- Yes, the program may be received on a Windows computer with IE5 and Media Player 9 or higher. Any Windows system after Windows 98 will work fine. With a Mac, the Mac also must use IE5, Real Player 8 and have Mac OS9 or later.

- What are the typical bandwidth requirements?
- With DSL/cable, it is possible to have two or three users. A full T1 line could enable four to five users. However, if many other users are absorbing your available bandwidth, there may not be enough for the webcast program. It is important to test your broadband system by going to the GiftLegacy WEBCAST TEST PAGE.
